Doula Heather Taylor
The unbiased support you deserve
My name is Heather Taylor. I am a DONA certified birth doula in San Diego, as well as a Certified Lactation Educator.
I am a very proud mother of two amazing little boys. The birth of my second son led me down this path of birth support, though not in the way you might expect. Although our experience together was beautiful, the twists and turns he took us through showed me that emotional and physical support is key to better outcomes for both the birthing person and the baby.
His birth opened my eyes to a career that I couldn't be more passionate about and showed me that these babies are wise little souls with more to teach us than we think. This work is about continuous learning, growing and changing, all of which are things that challenge me to be the best I can be for each and every family I work with.
I would love to chat with you more, so please feel free to send me a message so we can talk!
How I Assist
Get extra personal support throughout the entirety of your birthing journey. As a Doula, I promise to offer unbiased, evidence-based support to you and your family before, during, and after birth. I will be available during normal business hours until 37 weeks gestation, at which point I become on-call 24 hours a day.
I offer a free consultation to see if we are a fit for each other. Once hired, we will meet at least twice before your baby is born. During these meetings we will work on our connection, your birth preferences, I will answer any questions and provide resources about your birth choices if needed. We will collectively decide when I will join you in labor, and I remain until after your baby is born.
After your baby's birth, I am available to come to your home to assist you for 1-2 hours in whatever way you may need. As a Certified Lactation Educator, I can assist with breastfeeding and provide guidance and resources for adjusting to life as a new family.
My fee for everything listed is $850. I offer a 10% discount if you attend and complete an out-of-hospital childbirth education series by 38 weeks gestation.

Education and Background
DONA July 2017
Certified Labor Doula
I certified with DONA (Doulas of North America) in July of 2017. According to its website, "DONA International’s primary function is to provide excellent doula education and certification to a diverse population of doulas world-wide. DONA International promotes the highest quality perinatal support for birthing mothers and their families by setting the standard for doula education and training, and by advocating the research-based benefits of doula care."
Birth Education Center Oct-Dec 2017
Doula Finishing Series
After completing the workshop through DONA, complete the Doula Finishing Series. This series helped me with my personal growth, developing a self-run business, as well as showed me how to apply my training to real-life situations and families. I learned more comfort measures, how to present prenatal education, and how to support parents postpartum.
UC San Diego Extension September 2018
Certified Lactation Educator
This program prepares health professionals and other interested individuals to become lactation educators. It furnishes the basic information necessary to promote breastfeeding and to interact in the breastfeeding situation by assisting and encouraging the breastfeeding triad of mother, baby, and support person. Topics include basic anatomy and physiology of lactation, early attachment of the baby, hospital care, support during the postpartum stage, common concerns and solutions, and appliances and apparatuses used in breastfeeding. At completion of the course students are "Lactation Education Counselors". The certification is valid for 5 years from the date of completion; we offer a quarterly online refresher course.
Birth Education Center March 2017
The Rebozo has deep cultural ties and is often used to develop the connection between the parents and baby before, during and after labor. The intention of the user is key when using the Rebozo, and I have been certified in Rebozo techniques to comfort and support the birthing person.
Attended a workshop led by Nicole Morales, LM CPM September 2019
Spinning Babies focuses on anatomy and its relation to balance in pregnancy, labor, and birth. In this workshop, we discussed various labor patterns, developed and discussed solutions to slow or stalled labors, and clarified the scope of a doula in relation to Spinning Babies and it's comfort measures.

"Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth."
